Summer has been really incredible. I just played an ace game of squash and yesterday was Jon McCurley's birthday! Anyway, I am moving to California to go to school in September. If you're following this stuff: that is probably big news, few people, me included, ever expected me to 'move' away from Toronto. Also, Blocks R.C. is releasing my new Adorno record "Pegatively Nositive" in two formats this fall! We're getting ready to make that available to you! It is very exciting! Also, I have finished another record that I would really like someone to release: it is a kind of extended version of this song called 2003 and it is amazing: the album cover ideas for it are already mind-blowing. I promise you nothing but the most amazing printing you've ever seen in your life. I'm also going to do a few shows soon! At wavelength and at "drug bike". And tomorrow I'm playing with Matt Dunn at arraymusic space. It should be 'face melting' or some such. Also: it's Ben's birthday soon: HAPPY BIRTHDAY BEN!
Just a word from Anacortes to say that: A - Next week I "go on tour" which means playing two shows in Portland, the first with Aaron Flint Jamison (expect me to post many photographs of him on the internet) the second with the Dirty Projectors, following that I will do two shows with Mt. Eerie
in Washington State; B - My final project here at the Department of
Safety will be displayed and performed on MAY 2. It is so mystical and
secret. It contains so much natural secret wisdom and oriental magic
that it can only be contained in a tower and to look on it's mystery
would be to go blind. Please come and DON'T LOOK AT IT.
So I am now in Anacortes, Washington being the Artist in Residence at The Department of Safety. I am having some pretty wild ideas and working hard on my project for Amy Lam's subscription service. There will be a big "final show" of my work here on the 2nd of May. I am very stoked to be here.
I organized a performance by the Social Music Workgroup of Terry Riley's IN C for the Wavelength 8th Anniversary Concert weekend.
The performance featured: Andrew Wedman, myself, Jon McCurley, Rick
Conroy, James Anderson, Chip Yarwood, Valerie Uher, Mike Smith, Alex
Geddie, Katie Stelmanis, Shahin Etemadzadeh, Jonny Dovercourt, Dylan
Reibling, Maya Postepski and Owen Pallett. You can, for a short time,
download a recording of the performance via YOUSENDIT.
I AM THE NEXT ARTIST IN RESIDENCE AT THE DEPARTMENT OF SAFETY
So, I'm the spring Artist in Residence at Anacortes, WA's Department of
Safety. The Department of Safety is this interesting multi-purpose
live-work artist center/music venue in a really small town. It is a
really neat place and I am very stoked on being over there. It's like
maybe 2 or so hours from Vancouver and Victoria at the same time. It's
basically as much like being in Canada as I will probably be able to
get in the USA. I am building a hilarious project there for two months,
starting in March. You can learn more about the Department of Safety here.
I AM BACK FROM SCANDINAVIA
The other news about that is that after spending a week in Finland with
my friends and their awesome children my new project is called 'The
Blankket Starts A Family'. Screw all this other stuff. I have no more
goals. Although I'm joking: I might actually drop out of Greek at
University and just work on finishing stuff up for school next year and
getting this new record taken care of. What do you think of that?
I AM GOING TO BE IN SCANDINAVIA SOON
I will be playing some shows in Denmark and Finland in the next two weeks. There are 'details' in the 'performances' section
of this website. You can also find related information on the Blocks Recording Club website.
I FUCKED UP.
So, I was supposed to play a show this afternoon in Guelph at the Kazoo
festival. I should, probably, be in Guelph right now actually. However,
I am physically in Toronto. For a bunch of reasons, I was unable to
actually get to Guelph. First amongst those reasons is that I have
never learned how to drive. But what basically happened is that the
person who offered to give me a ride was, because of various other
responsibilities and the vicisitudes of group dynamics unable to
actually get in a car and drive me to Guelph before 1pm. The show was
supposed to be over at 2pm and it takes one hour to get from Toronto to
Guelph. So, first off: I'd I'd like to apologize to the organizers and
people of Guelph. I will gladly come for a make up show. I am very
sorry. This is the first show I have ever flaked on. I am very sorry
that this has happened. Hopefully you will accept this apology and let
me make it up to you all. Sorry.
NEW INTERNET!
I HAVE MADE A NEW BLANKKET INTERNET. MAYBE THIS IS USEFUL?
